Thought it might be helpful for out-of-towners and non-East Van residents if we shared a little local knowledge about the best coffee and breakfast places on the Drive.

I'll get this started:

Continental Coffee - Great barista made coffee at good value. Has a few pastries as well. East side of Commercial, 1 block Sth of 1st

Abruzzo - Italian soccer cafe, 2 mins walk from Grandview Court. I still think this has the best coffee in town, although for a large one I go to continental. Try the hot Italian sausage in a bun with chillies and pizza slices too. Best place to watch a soccer game.

Little Nest - 2 mins walk from Grandview Court. Somewhere for those with little ones in tow. Good coffee and friendly atmosphere with kids' play area and toys. They do breakfast as well.

Must try it, DU. That reminds me - Bon's on Broadway (@ Nanaimo so not exactly on the Drive) still does a $2.95 All Day Breakfast - meat, eggs, toast, hash browns. Classic greasy spoon stuff. Don't know how they do it...

Not necessarily breakfast but...

Donair Town (Commercial and Kitchener) - $2.99 donairs (used to be $2.50!)

Elizabeth's Bakery (Commercial and Charles) - Cheap sandwiches and good pastries.

Britannia Sushi (Commercial and Parker) - Cheap sushi

Rundell Cafe on Hastings between Nanaimo and Penticton has great breakfasts (~$10).

There is also Teresa's on the Drive right across from Grandview Park. Employee owned and run. Great home fries with lots of garlic!! (~$8).

We always take the parents to Sebs when they're in town - as the breakfast is more gourmet (brie, apple and bacon in the same dish). The guys who run it have a background in catering local movies, I believe.

Haven't done breakfast at Bandidas, but the veggie wraps are tasty and good value. Friendliest atmosphere too.

Cafe Deux Soleil used to be the best, hands down, until they changed management and now their food sucks, service is sluggish and coffee is weak. Kyles cafe (10th and broadway) is an awesome greasy spoon with great 3 dollar breakfast, and you don't have to wait an obscene amount of time for your meal like you do at bon's.

I live 2 minutes walk from Bon's and usually go around 10am to 11am, and find I usually get an order pretty quickly (mind you I don't go at weekends cos of the wait). If I dispense with a menu and just order the usual - BOR (bacon, eggs over-easy, rye) - all day brekkie I can get served in minutes.
